Nearly 10,000 Water Meters Are Being Replaced
One of Marco Island's largest ongoing utility projects is the City's Advanced Metering Infrastructure initiative, commonly referred to as AMI.
The project involves replacing approximately 11,500 aging water meters throughout Marco Island with modern meters capable of providing more accurate and timely water-use information.
As of July 2026, the City reported that approximately 9,800 meters had been replaced, putting the project at roughly 85 percent completion.
Why does this matter?
Modern water-meter technology can improve billing accuracy, help identify unusual water consumption and provide better information about the City's overall water system.
For individual property owners, improved monitoring may also make it easier to identify potential water-use issues before they become significantly larger problems.

The City has begun its 2026 manhole rehabilitation program, which involves applying protective lining to aging wastewater structures.
